Trent Williams
Trent Williams, born on July 19, 1988, the Year of the Earth Dragon, is an American football offensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He is considered one of the best tackles in the league, having made eleven Pro Bowls and four All-Pro teams. And after a 14 year NFL Career and Life-threatening Cancer, Trent Williams has earned a well-deserved spot in this year’s Super Bowl.
Early Years and College Career
Born and raised in Longview, Texas, Williams attended Longview High School, where he played for the Longview Lobos high school football team. He was a unanimous first-team all-district selection as a senior. Williams attended the University of Oklahoma, and played for coach Bob Stoops’s Oklahoma Sooners football team from 2006 to 2009. He was part of a dominant 2008 Sooners offensive line that allowed only 11 sacks all season, the third-lowest total of any team in the country.
NFL Career
Williams was selected by the Washington Redskins fourth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. In 2019, Williams held out the entire year with the Redskins due to contractual and personal grievances regarding a cancerous growth on his head downplayed by the team but later determined by private doctors to be life threatening. The standoff eventually led to him being traded to the 49ers in 2020.
Role with the 49ers
Williams is the anchor on San Francisco’s offensive line with his athleticism fueling the team’s running game and his strength protecting the quarterback’s blind side in the passing game. Williams has earned back-to-back All-Pro honors and regularly delivers highlight-reel blocks. His strong play as the anchor to the line has allowed the Niners to dedicate more resources to other spots. The San Francisco 49ers re-signed All-Pro tackle Trent Williams to a six-year deal through the 2026 season.
